September 17 through 23 is Constitution Week

Celebrate Constitution Week with us from September 17 through 23! This week celebrates the foundational document that shapes our nation, and we take this opportunity to reflect on the historical events that led to the birth of the United States of America, the principles and values that have guided us for generations, and the Constitution's role in safeguarding our rights and freedoms.

The beginning of the school year has been great. Our children are in the routines needed to be successful at school. Every moment counts in the classroom. We begin our day with a school-wide read aloud of a novel. Reading is extremely important and we maximize our resources to make sure children have what they need to grow as readers. Our media center has approximately 16,000 books for students to checkout. We have two closets full of novels that our teachers can use for small group instruction.

HCS Superintendent Clifford Jones is once again challenging students to read! If you haven’t already started logging pages on Beanstack, make sure you start soon because, for this year’s Superintendent’s Reading Challenge, HCS is partnering with the Bojangles Foundation to bring amazing prizes to our top readers!

HCS Outperforms State on Three Major Assessments (opens in new window/tab)

For another consecutive year, Horry County Schools students outperformed state averages on key academic benchmarks. According to results recently released by the South Carolina Department of Education, Horry County Schools students surpassed their peers statewide on three major measures during the past school year.
